Keeping dogs and their families together during difficult times..

Many dogs are surrendered into rescue or a shelter, and sometimes even euthanized, simply because their families cannot afford to care for them. Families are broken apart just when they need each other the most.

Sometimes keeping a dog out of rescue and with their family is the best solution. Poodle Rescue of Vermont works directly with the fund recipients, and coordinates with veterinarians, pharmacists, and pet food and supply companies to provide food and medical assistance to families in need at zero or reduced cost. The Alex Fund keeps families together.

The Alex Fund was created in honor of Alex, a 10 year old Bichon-Poodle mix. His mother could no longer afford his medical care for Cushing's Disease and his prescription food after already spending thousands on his medical care. After several months of declining health he was finally scheduled to be euthanized. Through the efforts of our volunteers Alex received his medication and prescription food on the same day that PRVT learned of his plight. Until his passing on December 8, 2011, Alex and his family received the support of PRVT. To his very last day with us, Alex was able to live a full and happy life with his mother who cherished him.
